Resin Transfer Molding
Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) is an emerging growth technology that brings many advantages to the production of Fiberclass Reinforced Polyester components.

RTM uses a closed mold system where reinforcement fibers (continuous strand mat or a combination of mat and multi-directional roving) are loaded into a mold set. After clamping the mold halves, a liquid polymer resin is injected under pressure into the mold cavity.

RTM is an effective fabrication technique for the production of fiber-reinforced, high performance structural composites. It is suited for the economic production of complex parts at high fiber loadings with low void volume. Advanced Molding has a broad range of resin systems and reinforcements to help you achieve your product performance goals.

Advantages of Resin Transfer Molding
Resin Transfer Molding is a unique, automatable processing method for the manufacture of highly reinforced, low void, structural composite parts.

These parts can be molded consistently to close tolerances with good surface finish on all surfaces, in most cases, without the need for a gel coat. RTM can be used to produce complex structures with fiber preforms. A high degree of part consolidation, reduces the number of smaller parts and associated assembly costs.

The relatively low molding pressures used in RTM help reduce mold and equipment costs. Additional monetary savings can be realized through shorter cycle times, lower capital investments, lower raw material costs, and the use of fiber preforms (vs. hand lay-up).

Safety
This closed mold system lowers styrene emissions to the environment and reduces employee exposure. The process can be automated with computerization and robots.

RTM Advantages

Higher production rates (4-5 times faster)
Closer dimensional tolerances and part detail
Two-sided finishes, dissimilar or alike
Elimination of "roll out"
Lower cost materials
Minimal material waste
Core materials, inserts, bosses and ribs possible
Greatly reduced emissions with RTM
